The Transport Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Ina Brandes, mourns the loss of her husband Kristian Tangermann. The Lower Saxony CDU politician was found dead at home on Tuesday. The entire state cabinet is thinking about the family, writes NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst.
The Lower Saxony CDU politician Kristian Tangermann died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 45. That was shared by the Lilienthal community in the evening on their website with. The local politician was mayor of the municipality and husband of the North Rhine-Westphalian transport minister Ina Brandes.

The CDU was “deeply shaken”. According to information from the town hall, Tangermann was found dead by relatives in his home in Seebergen on Tuesday. The police have not yet released any information about the circumstances of his death. A police spokesman said there was no information about the cause of death or evidence of third-party negligence. The prosecutor will probably order an autopsy.
“It is with great dismay and deep shock that we learned today of the unexpected death of our party friend Kristian Willem Tangermann,” said Bernd Althusmann, state chairman of the CDU in Lower Saxony, in a statement. Tangermann was “a good friend, reliable politician and his wife a loving husband”.
“Family is more important than any office”
Hendrik Wüst, Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, also spoke on Twitter. The news of Tangermann’s death “hit him deeply. The entire state cabinet is thinking of Transport Minister Ina Brandes, who has suffered an irreparable loss.”
The state government supports Brandes “in these difficult times – the family is more important than any office,” he continues. Wüst also personally mourns “a longtime political friend”.
