Despite a month of negotiations in New York, the 191 signatory countries of the NPT could not agree on a joint declaration on Friday because of Russia, which denounced in the draft final text “some shamelessly political paragraphs“.
The Élysée affirms, in its press release, that “France respects and will continue to respect fully its obligations under the NPTand that she remains opposed to the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty.
“France remains fully mobilized to find a diplomatic solution to the nuclear proliferation crises, which constitute a serious threat to international peace and security.“, while continuing”its effort to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, which is particularly important in the face of the challenges posed by climate change and the current tensions over energy supplies“, adds the presidency.
