Nuki smart locks: maintenance this Monday evening will block remote actions

Connected objects can be used in several different ways. They can be controlled directly via Bluetooth or via the home wifi network; in the latter case, it usually allows them to be controlled remotely via a server maintained by the manufacturer of the device.

This is particularly the case with the connected locks of the Nuki brand, which can be unlocked at any time and from any place thanks to the application. The manufacturer announced on its blog that a maintenance operation on Monday January 23, 2023 around 8 p.m. would prevent certain actions on its connected locks, even if it should not completely block their operation.

Owners of Nuki connected locks can be reassured: this operation will not completely prevent the device from being used. Locally, it will be possible to unlock the lock. On the other hand, the following remote operations may be unavailable for about thirty minutes from 8 p.m. tonight:

  • Remote door opening
  • Checking the condition of the locks
  • Push notifications
  • Creating remote access invitation and authorization codes
  • Integrations Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT, etc.

On the other hand, Smart Lock 3.0 Pro devices could perform position detections, i.e. trigger to check if the lock is closed or open. A behavior that could surprise, but turns out to be completely normal in the context of this maintenance operation.
