Change of schedules and days of broadcast, departures of Bertrand Renard and Arielle Boulin-Prat, Numbers and Letters has a new look. The producer, Patrice Laffont, talks about the new sleeper of the show with Télé-Loisirs.
PAF’s oldest game gets a makeover. On the air since 1965, Numbers and Letters will now switch to weekly and will be broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m. “We really wanted to rejuvenate this afternoon slot during the week, while keeping this historic meeting on the air at all costs and this is the best solution we have found”, confided Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, director of antennas and programs of France Télévisions, to HuffPost. After the controversial evictions of Bertrand Renard and Arielle Boulin-Prat, the program presented by Laurent Romejko will welcome two new referees: a former champion of the game and a professor of letters, as revealed by Télé-Loisirs. “Their interventions will probably be a little less in-depth”explained Patrice Laffont to our colleagues.
“Bertrand and Arielle worked a lot, wrote very rich cultural ‘papers’. There will be more ping-pong with Laurent Romejko, who keeps his rank as master of the game, but with interactions. He will ask more questions about this that he wants to know more”, added the producer Numbers and letters. And the show will experience other changes. “Until now, a victorious candidate could chain ten games in a row to win the Grail. Now it will be fivedescribes Patrice Laffont to Télé-Loisirs. It’s a way to adapt to the fact that we will only be airing twice a week. Arrived at five victories, the candidate will have the choice. Either stop and take his gain. Either to continue until ten, but taking the risk of losing everything with each additional round. It adds drama.”
Numbers and letters: what program replaces it?
“Generally, there will be more choices in the new Numbers and Letters, so more strategy and spice”summarizes the producer of the historic game, explaining that the winnings of the candidates would also be revalued: “A candidate will therefore be able to win up to a maximum of 10,000 euros, compared to around 7,000 today, I believe. This is a relatively large increase for Numbers and letters, which is above all not a gambling “. Worried about whether viewers will follow the show despite the change in broadcast box, Patrice Laffont is eager to launch this new formula. As a reminder, to replace the institution of Numbers and Letters, France Télévisions has chosen to trust Cyril Féraud and his new game, Duels en famille.
