Nuremberg disappoints
FC St. Pauli magically storms to the top
In the last games of the first match day of the 2nd Bundesliga, FC St. Pauli storms to the top. A former Bayern player makes his debut at opponent Kiel. That is whistled. The audience is back. Also in Sandhausen and Nuremberg.
Leart Paqarada led FC St. Pauli to victory in the northern derby against Holstein Kiel. Hamburg prevailed 3-0 (1-0) against Schleswig-Holstein in the 2nd Bundesliga. In front of 8,900 spectators in the Millerntor Stadium, left-back Paqarada St. Pauli gave St. Pauli an early lead with his long-range shot from around 25 meters (11th minute). The ball, kicked with the left, hit the Holstein goalkeeper Ioannis Gelios in the top right corner. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (62nd) and Guido Burgstaller (90th + 1) increased to 3-0.
Almost only the hosts created chances to score. Burgstaller awarded two further opportunities to expand the tour. The St. Pauli team, which had changed slightly compared to the previous season, played more neatly and was more aggressive. The Kielers, who, on the other hand, have to do without five top performers from the previous season, have not yet been able to bring their well-known offensive power to the pitch. Kiel gave preference to Bayern loan Fiete Arp in the storm. But the 21-year-old, who was whistled by the fans because of his HSV past, had a difficult time against the Hamburg-based defense. St. Pauli indicated why coach Timo Schultz’s team is one of the secret favorites for promotion.
Dusseldorf sovereign
Fortuna from Düsseldorf also got off to a good start. Goal scorer Rouwen Hennings made a double in the 56th and 62nd minute (penalty kick) for a deserved 2-0 (0-0) win for the promotion candidate at SV Sandhausen. The hosts, who have changed a lot compared to the previous season and started with eight newcomers, were not enough to score at least one point with 30 minutes before the break.
Düsseldorf started deliberately in front of 3454 spectators, a header from Christoph Klarer parried Sandhausen’s goalkeeper Patrick Drewes (3rd). After that, however, the guests appeared cautious in their first competitive game under their new coach Christian Preusser, and Sandhausen got better into the game. After the break, however, it was Hennings who made the decision within six minutes. First he dusted off from a few meters, then he converted a penalty after a foul by Oumar Diakhite on the Düsseldorf offensive talent Shinta Appelkamp. After that, Fortuna routinely brought the lead over time thanks to its higher individual quality.
Nuremberg’s false start
For the third year in a row in the second division, 1. FC Nürnberg found it difficult to get out of the starting blocks. Even with 11,089 fans in their backs for the first time, they did not want to have a top start after two gloomy seasons. In the 0-0 win against Erzgebirge Aue, there was also an assault in the second half of the game without a grand finale. The club pushed hard, but the jokers brought by trainer Robert Klauss didn’t ignite in the end either. Aue defended well, led by Dirk Carlson, who was extremely strong in two combat, put pinpricks forward and earned the point.
