singular destiny for this Graphic card
yet officially announced by NVIDIA and, since then, missing.

At CES 2022 in Las Vegas, NVIDIA certainly did not give a guarantee, but the company had officially confirmed the upcoming release of a very high-end graphics card to supplant the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Ti. Logically, the model was baptized RTX 3090 Ti .

An official card, but very discreet

Problem, since this announcement at the beginning of last January, the card in question has not really given any sign of life, and we can even say that NVIDIA is “playing dead”. There have been a few shots of models from partner manufacturers, but that’s all.

Worse, we were mostly entitled to leaks to mention the cessation of all production of these cards. Leaks not confirmed by NVIDIA, but which were still worrying by indicating both hardware and software (BIOS) problems.

I don’t tell you anything, the best thing is that you repeat to him… »

Relayed by our colleagues from VideoCardz, the words of Jen Andersson, spokesperson for NVIDIA, are the first official comments from the manufacturer about this RTX 3090 Ti in weeks. However, do not expect any major revelations.

We don’t have any other information to share about the RTX 3090 Ti at this time, but we’ll be sure to contact you when we have it. »

In essence, NVIDIA therefore has nothing more to say, but we still remember that the name of RTX 3090 Ti seems to have to remain on the program. The graphics card must be designed around the GA102-350 GPU, have the fastest video memory at the moment (GDDR6X at 21 Gbps) for a planned consumption of 450 W.

A problematic diet?

This information leads some observers to see this RTX 3090 Ti as a kind of “test” product, a card intended to prepare for the arrival of the next generation, codenamed Lovelace, which should be even more demanding.

Our colleagues fromIgor’s Lab are among the proponents of this preparatory product theory for manufacturers. In particular, they link this to the need to review the power supply and the gradual arrival of PCI Express 5.0 standard blocks, and the 12VHPWR connector which must allow a maximum of 600 W when the 12-pin connector is limited to 450 W.

Finally, Igor’s Lab raises the question of the stability of the power supply of such a powerful graphics card. Since the 12-pin port is not enough for the estimated 520W peaks for the RTX 3090 Ti, one would have to rely on the motherboard’s PEG port. For this, it might be necessary to partially review the power supply stages of the motherboards. If this information were true, we would understand that the RTX 3090 Ti does not unleash passions.

Apart from any question of availability, the price of such a card would in any case make it inaccessible to ordinary mortals, but Videocardz still has fun relaying the site of a Danish retailer who announces it for the 2 next March. Not convinced.
