120 images per second were already offered on Android terminals, but the definition capped at Full HD. From now on, QHD becomes an option, but only for Ultimate members.

Every Thursday, as part of GFN Thursday, NVIDIA announces the latest news related to its GeForce Now cloud gaming service – the best cloud gaming experience in our opinion – which we gave a score of 9 out of 10.

Sometimes announcements are limited to the addition of a few games; that’s not the case this week. The company has in fact informed users of the possibility of streaming in better quality on Android devices.

QHD definition available on Android

Until now, the cloud gaming service allowed 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) at 120 frames per second on the Android platform. The latest update improves streaming quality by allowing up to 1440p definition: 2560 × 1440 pixels or even 2560 x 1600, always at 120 FPS. Not yet 4K as on Android TV and Windows/macOS computers, but a definition which remains very comfortable given the size of the screens of smartphones and tablets.

To benefit from streaming in 1440p at 120 frames per second on an Android device, you must have an Ultimate subscription, the best offered. The company charges it 21.99 euros per month or 109 euros for six months. This formula allows sessions of 8 hours, up to 4K at 120 FPS on PC / TV, and gives access to a machine armed with a GeForce RTX 4080.

The company specifies that you need a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 120 Hz panel to enjoy streaming at 120 FPS (it is however likely that as on PC, it is possible to activate streaming at 120 FPS even with a screen does not reach such a frequency; this serves to slightly reduce command latency). NVIDIA lists several models tested, including the Galaxy S22 and S21 or the ASUS ROG 5 (so suffice to say that you will also benefit from it with an S23 or an S24).

Several games added, including Enshrouded

Regarding the games added on Thursday January 25, they are listed below; several come from the Microsoft Store, with both companies now firmly in the gaming field.

  • Stargate: Timekeepers (new release on Steam, Jan. 23)
  • Enshrouded (new release on Steam, Jan. 24)
  • Firefighting Simulator – The Squad (Steam)
  • Metal: Hellsinger (Xbox, available on the Microsoft Store)
  • Road 96: Mile 0 (Xbox, available on the Microsoft Store)
  • Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (Steam)
  • Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choicee (Steam)
  • Solasta: Crown of the Magister (Steam)
  • Tails Black (Xbox, available on the Microsoft Store)
  • Wobbly Life (Steam)

Be warned, however, that games from publisher Spike Chunsoft will be withdrawn, at the latter’s request, from February 2. This concerns 14 titles, including several opuses Danganronpa.

Finally, in addition to the Ultimate subscription mentioned above, remember that the other paid plan is the Owner; it costs 10.99 euros per month or 54.99 euros for six months. Sessions are limited to 6 hours, and streaming is 1080p at 60 frames per second at best. As for the GPUs, they are equivalent to RTX 3080.

Those who wish can still try GeForce Now for free, although with many restrictions (non-priority access to servers, session limited to one hour, among others).

GeForce Now

  • Performance and stability in Ethernet
  • Image quality
  • Play your Steam, Epic, Ubi… games in ultra

At the start of 2021, GeForce Now seems to us to be an excellent support service that meets certain specific needs. It still appears limited, both in terms of catalog and interface, and we would like to go above 1080p for fast and stable connections. But the technology works very well, the potential is there, and we feel that all we need are updates to improve the experience.
