You thought you could get your hands on a custom RTX 4080 at a “reasonable” price? Abandon all hope… The first models seen across the Atlantic and across the Channel are exploring new price peaks.
Their launch is not scheduled before November 16, but the GeForce RTX 4080s are already starting to be listed at certain retailers in the United States and Great Britain. Their prices are, unsurprisingly, very high. Count 1,199 dollars (HT) for an RTX 4080 signed PNY at the American Newegg, and 1,449.97 pounds (TTC) in starting price for a Palit model at the British LaptopsDirect. As a reminder, these prices relate to the RTX 4080 16 GB. The 12 GB model was aborted by NVIDIA a few weeks ago.
The RTX 4080 16GB will ruin you
In this case, the Palit models listed at LaptopsDirect are displayed at a price approximately 40% higher than the price recommended by NVIDIA across the Atlantic. In the specific case of the models listed by this British retailer, this increase is partly explained by the inclusion of local VAT (22%). As a reminder, the prices announced during international launches are most often expressed in dollars, and excluding taxes, which subsequently induces a discrepancy with the selling prices displayed including tax in France, as in the United Kingdom.
Nevertheless, NVIDIA has also increased the price of its RTX 4080 and 4090 without shaking compared to their predecessors. Add to that the still slightly higher prices claimed for custom models, but also the supply problems that continue to affect the GPU market, and you get a price spike on the RTX Ada Lovelace. Note the reference RTX 4080 is announced in France from 1,469 euros, VAT included.

The RTX 4080, what specs?
The RTX 4080 must carry 16 GB of video memory in GDDR6X. This memory should go up to 22.5 Gbps using a 256-bit bus. Enough to offer up to 720 GB / s of bandwidth, note WCCFTech. It’s a little less than the 760 GB / s of the RTX 3080 (it relies on a 320-bit bus), but we gain in VRAM. In addition, NVIDIA could opt for a new memory compression technology to best exploit the 256-bit bus of its new RTX 4080.
For the rest, the RTX 4080 must rely on a partially castrated AD103-300 GPU chip and comprising 9,728 cores. It would also be equipped with 48 MB of L2 cache and would benefit from a frequency of up to 2,505 MHz in boost. Its TGP should finally peak at 320 W.
