NVIDIA officially announces DLSS 3.5 improving ray tracing on all RTX cards

NVIDIA didn’t come to Gamescom empty-handed. At the German show, the group notably announced its DLSS 3.5. This new version of its iconic technology, based on a revamped AI engine, is compatible with all graphics cards RTX.

What better than Gamescom to make a big announcement related to Gaming? Failing to be able to announce new graphics cards (its Ada Lovelace cards are still young), NVIDIA took advantage of its visit to Cologne to seriously boost the software coating of its various GeForce RTXs, by announcing a new version of its Supersampling technology home: DLSS 3.5.

What is DLSS 3.5?

This new version of DLSS technology, compatible with both the GeForce RTX 4000 and the old RTX 2000 and 3000, relies on a new AI engine to improve its performance and above all boost the rendering of ray-tracing on compatible titles.

Revealed in detail by NVIDIA in its press release, DLSS 3.5 has the effect of replacing the “ denoisers » (or « denoisers » in French) employed until now by a new process called « Ray Reconstruction “.

THE ” denoisers are manually tuned and processed for each type of ray lighting present in a scene, which adds complexity and cost to the development process and reduces framerate in high ray games where multiple denoisers are running simultaneously to maximize image quality “, explains NVIDIA.

This is where the ” Ray Reconstruction “. According to the firm, this technology is part of an AI-powered neural renderer that improves the quality of raytraced images for all GeForce RTX GPUs by replacing hand-tuned denoisers with an AI network trained on an NVIDIA supercomputer , capable of generating higher quality pixels between the sampled rays “.

With this new technique, NVIDIA therefore wants both to improve the rendering of ray-tracing when DLSS is activated, but also to boost fluidity and simplify the lives of developers. Still according to the brand, this new process would also make it possible to correct display problems observed with the old processing method.

Which games are compatible with DLSS 3.5?

For now, NVIDIA mainly uses the Overdrive mode of Cyberpunk 2077 to demonstrate its new technology, but the latter is intended to be extended to a maximum of titles and common usage situations, such as DLSS 2.0 before it… and by opening up to many more graphics cards than DLSS 3.0 (reserved for RTX 4000 only). Note also that DLSS 3.5 can also be useful in creative software, especially for 3D modeling.

It will however be necessary to wait a little before enjoying it. NVIDIA announces an effective launch of its DLSS 3.5 during the fall, and first on titles like Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyor Portal with RTX. Chaos Vantage and D5 Render 3D creation software will also be compatible from launch, as will the NVIDIA Omniverse platform.
