NVIDIA stops production of the very popular GeForce RTX 2060

NVIDIA announces the swan song for one of its graphics cards the most popular, RTX 2060as well as its SUPER version.

The second most popular graphics card on Steam sees its production stopped, after three years of good and loyal service.

The end of an era

Since its release in 2019, the RTX 2060 has integrated more than one gaming PC, according to the Steam hardware study. Appearing in second place in this ranking, it owes its popularity in particular to the fact that it was the graphics card supporting ray tracing and the most affordable DLSS.

A model so popular that NVIDIA then declined it in two other iterations: the SUPER version, released in 2020, then the 12 GB version in December 2021. This had been partly developed so as not to arouse the covetousness of crypto -minors at the time.

All good things come to an end, unfortunately, as NVIDIA has asked to stop production of the RTX 2060 and SUPER. The American giant would also have asked its partners to limit the supply of these models by the end of the month.

Place for young people

The RTX 2060 will therefore gradually abandon its throne of the most affordable RTX and DLSS compatible graphics card available, and it is the RTX 3050 that will take over. As long as there is stock left (this shouldn’t last long), however, it will be possible to acquire an RTX 2060 or SUPER at much more reasonable prices than the RTX 3000 or RTX 4000 generation.

A heartbreak for many PC players, but an opportunity for NVIDIA to give way to more recent generations. The RTX 3000s, although still relatively difficult to access, should thus become more democratic over time.

Meanwhile, the all-new RTX 4000 generation continues to hit the headlines with sky-high prices and adapter meltdown issues, among other annoyances. The next in line, the RTX 4080, is expected on November 16, with prices that give cold sweats.
