Unbelievable: A leaker reports that Nvidia is stopping production of the 12 GB model of the RTX 3080 after almost 6 months. The reason: The sharp drop in price of the other Nvidia models – especially the RTX 3080 Ti – makes the drilled version of the RTX 3080 almost superfluous.
RTX 3080 leak: Nvidia is removing the 12 GB variant from the range
Although Nvidia’s RTX 3000 graphics cards have been plagued by production bottlenecks almost continuously over the past two years and have therefore only rarely been available, the successor cards are to be announced in a few months.
After all: Within the last few months, the situation on the market has improved increasingly, so that the prices of the current models have slowly fallen to an acceptable level. But that’s exactly what seems to be killing the 12 GB model of the RTX 3080. The improved version of the RTX 3080 did not go on sale until January 2022, but production is said to have already stopped At least that’s what hardware insider MEGAsizeGPU reports on Twitter:

He gave the sharp drop in price of the RTX 3080 Ti as the reason for the production stop of the 12 GB version of the RTX 3080. This has become so cheap in recent months that that it is almost at the same price level as the RTX 3080 with 12 GB VRAM.
And since Nvidia also knows that in this case the players prefer to use the RTX 3080 Ti, according to their information the company has decided to stop chip production.
