The website WCCFtech has just unveiled the characteristics of all the GeForce RTX 40s that will equip laptops gaming. There are thus no less than 5 GPUs ranging from the GeForce RTX 4050 to the GeForce RTX 4090. Nvidia is therefore extending its range at launch compared to the RTX 30s, the GeForce RTX 3050 having only appeared well after the announcement of the RTX 30s for laptops.

Obviously, the RTX 40 for laptops will take over the Ada Lovelace architecture of the models for desktop PCs, and therefore the fineness of engraving of 4 nm.

In terms of new features, we note that the amount of minimum video memory present in this range goes from 4 GB on the RTX 3050 to 6 GB on the RTX 4050. A welcome increase in view of the growing demand for video memory from video games and the increase in the definition of the screens. The GeForce RTX 4060 will also benefit from a 2 GB increase in video memory, going from 6 to 8 GB on board.

A maximum thermal envelope of 200 W!

According to our colleagues, the thermal envelopes of the GPUs should vary little, unlike the RTX 30s. Thus the GeForce RTX 4080/90 will have an envelope of 150 to 175 W depending on the operating mode with an additional 25 W of Dynamic Boost, i.e. a total of 200 W. Manufacturers will have to compete in ingenuity to cool these models. Some already apply liquid metal type thermal paste, and it is now not uncommon to see models with three fans.
The GeForce RTX 4070/60/50 will be content with 115 to 140 W, with an additional 25 W if the processor does not use all of its own thermal envelope (Dynamic Boost).
Only the GeForce RTX 4060 and 4050 will have a version formerly called Max-Q with an envelope reduced to 85 W with 10 W of Dynamic Boost. This will allow integrators wishing to offer machines dedicated to the creation of content with a finer design than traditional PC gamers.

The expected performance gain is around 30%, to which are added the new features of the RTX 40 such as DLSS 3.0, SER or even new raytracing effects. These new laptop GPUs will be announced during CES in Las Vegas and are expected to arrive in the first half of 2023 alongside 13th Gen Intel Core processors and AMD Ryzen 7000 laptop processors.
