The announcement had the effect of a cold shower for people with obesity. At a time when the daily number of Covid patients is increasing in France, obese people, in a situation of vulnerability to the virus, will no longer benefit from partial unemployment. This state mechanism is however essential to them in this time of health crisis.

Really vulnerable from a health point of view but also fragile from an economic point of view, people in a situation of obesity (with a BMI greater than 30) are nevertheless excluded from the list of people considered officially vulnerable.

Entered into force on Monday, August 31, the decree specifying the new list of these vulnerable groups in the context of deconfinement completely despises people with obesity. This recent decree repeals that of May 5, 2020, which defined the criteria for identifying vulnerable employees at risk of developing a serious form of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and who can be placed in partial activity.

The League Against Obesity denounces "an inadmissible triple penalty". The ad considered "unexpected and hasty " has left people with obesity in complete misunderstanding. This feeling of injustice is explained by the fact that the High Council of Public Health (HCSP) had explained that obesity with a BMI greater than 30 concealed a "predictive nature of severe forms of Covid-19".

This news, perceived as a triple sentence, is explained by the fact that obese people are more vulnerable to Covid-19, find themselves deprived of their health protection, and finally, now find themselves deprived of the health protection that allowed them partial unemployment.

The League Against Obesity says people suffering from obesity feel cheated today by the appearance of this decree. Because of this status, they have suffered a daily stigma that they have accepted for their survival and the health crisis, and suddenly they have to abandon it with the benefits that this status offered them.
