Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) are set to rematch in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. The two last faced each other in a battle in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

There, Obi-Wan defeated Anakin in the end, leaving Mustafar behind on the lava planet. But is Obi-Wan really stronger than his student? In “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” the two rivals meet again and Vader emerges victorious from the lightsaber duel.

Obi-Wan vs. Anakin – a comparison!

To compare the “strength” of the two, many components must be taken into account, especially when fighting on Mustafar. After Anakin’s betrayal, both are emotionally upset. Obi-Wan blames himself and is shocked that his student has joined the dark side of the Force.

Anakin is also emotionally charged. After helping the Emperor (Ian McDiarmid) defeat Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), there is no turning back. Anakin is agitated, confused, and overcome with emotion. Among them are anger and anger.

It suits Obi-Wan that he is reserved and more in control of his emotions than his student. Anakin, on the other hand, gives in to his feelings, so that he hides things, only pays limited attention to his surroundings and is a bit remote-controlled.

This is also reflected in his aggressive fighting style, which is probably insurmountable for many opponents. Only Kenobi can stand in the way of Anakin, because he trained Anakin and knows his strengths and weaknesses. His calm demeanor paired with the defensive fighting style are advantageous and so he can defeat Anakin in the situation prevailing on Mustafar. In “Star Wars: Episode IV”, however, tempers have cooled. Emotions only play a subordinate role and the reflective fighting Kenobi (Alec Guinness) has gotten older, so that he can no longer proceed so strategically and calmly.

Darth Vader, on the other hand, relies on strength, power and brute force. So he is superior to Obi-Wan and can bet that the aged Kenobi will sooner or later be exhausted and his defenses will drop.

If there is another lightsaber fight between the two in Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+, there will certainly not be a clear winner, as the series takes place between the two lightsaber fights between Kenobi and Vader just described.
