Obi-Wan Kenobi: Ewan McGregor’s daughter appears in episode 2 for a nod to Attack of the Clones

Ewan McGregor’s daughter appeared in the second episode of the Star Wars series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, the opportunity to pay tribute to a memorable scene from the movie “Attack of the Clones”.

If the Star Wars saga is often presented as the story of the Skywalker family, this observation also applies to that of Ewan McGregor. Himself a nephew of Dennis Lawson (the interpreter of the Wedge Antilles pilot in the original trilogy), the Scottish comedian gave the reply to his own daughter Esther McGregor in the second episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series!

The latter appears for a scene, while Kenobi sets off on the trail of Princess Leia Organa, kidnapped on the orders of Inquisitor Reva. In search of clues, the Jedi decides to question the local population, and in particular a young drug dealer (see below). Revealing that she herself was kidnapped during her childhood, her replica “I too was someone’s daughter” takes on a symbolic meaning because of the links that unite the two actors.

This scene also pays homage to the film Attack of the Clones (Episode II); Installed in a bar on the planet Coruscant, Kenobi rejected a dealer offering him a blue or red pill. This sequence was designed at the time by George Lucas as a tribute to the Matrix, and the dealer was also interpreted by Matt Doran, known for having played “the Mouse” in the Wachowski film.

Episodes of the Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series can be found every Wednesday exclusively on Disney+.
