We can’t quite say that this is an unexpected appearance (since teased from the first episode), but the presence of Qui-Gon Jinn in the final episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series however, had the effect of a nice surprise for fans of the Star Wars universe! The Jedi Knight played by Liam Neeson, killed at the end of The Phantom Menace (Episode I) by Darth Maul, returned in the form of a Force specter, the occasion for a moving reunion with his former padawan.
The presence of Liam Neeson in the Star Wars series is all the more surprising since the latter had recently opened the door to a return to Qui-Gon Jinn, on the sole condition of appearing in a film and not in a series. A media release that looked more like an attempt to cover the tracks rather than an authentic statement, the latter had already appeared in several series including… The Clone Wars (reviving his role as Qui-Gon for a few episodes in the Star Wars animated series)!.
Thus, the Irish comedian returned for our colleagues from HollywoodReporter on this cameo event, revealing in particular that they wanted to pay tribute to George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise. Here are his words:
I didn’t want anyone else to play Qui-Gon Jinn, and I wanted to show my respect to George Lucas and this mythological world he created. Also, Ewan McGregor is a friend, and I loved filming The Phantom Menace with him 25 years ago.

Note that this return of Liam Neeson in the Star Wars universe announces another; the latter will also be in the voice cast of the animated series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi in the role of Qui-Gon Jinn, who will also play his son Micheal Neeson in flashback scenes that will explore the youth of the Jedi.
