  • The “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” brings back Ewan McGregor as the popular Jedi Master.
  • Fans are hoping for Liam Neeson to play Kenobi’s champion, Qui-Gon Jinn.
  • Rumors of Neeson’s return keep circulating, now again.

Ever since the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi was announced, rumors have been circulating that Liam Neeson is returning as Obi-Wan’s Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. The rumor mill is fueled not only by fans, but also by insider reports and the star himself.

Now, a new report from the “Star Wars” site Bespin Bulletin is doing the rounds and wants an insider to confirm that Neeson is appearing in the new series. However, it is not yet possible to specify to what extent Neeson returns to the “Star Wars” universe.

Due to the ever-recurring waves of rumors, Neeson’s appearance is becoming more and more likely. Further down in the text we also tell you how the star fuels the rumor mill herself!

  1. What form does Liam Neeson take as Qui-Gon?

  2. “Star Wars” return: Liam Neeson blurts out!

What form does Liam Neeson take as Qui-Gon?

In Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Liam Neeson’s character, Qui-Gon Jinn, is killed by Darth Maul. In his last words, he asks his apprentice Obi-Wan to take Anakin under his wing, as he is the chosen one. Neeson returns as a Force Ghost in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

At the end of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Master Yoda exiles Obi-Wan to Tatooine and gives him a quest to train his use of the Force. Obi-Wan should contact the afterlife, his old master Qui-Gon, because he managed to become one with the Force after death.

Force ghosts after death are not uncommon in Star Wars, but no Jedi or Sith had learned the ability to persist as part of the Force before Qui-Gon. In fact, in the expanded Star Wars universe, Qui-Gon’s Force Spirit is unable to take form, as he hadn’t perfected this ability before his death.

That’s why at the end of “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” Luke “only” sees Obi-Wan, Anakin and Yoda’s force spirit, but not Qui-Gon’s. So, in “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Qui-Gon is more likely to come across to us vocally, or in flashbacks and visions.

“Star Wars” return: Liam Neeson blurts out!

Back in January 2021, Neeson fueled the rumor mill when he was asked in a video interview with US entertainment website Collider if he knew fans were wanting a return.

The actor seems a bit irritated, smiles briefly and asks, unperturbed, whether “Star Wars” hasn’t disappeared from the scene in the meantime. The interviewer explains that a whole series of “Star Wars” spin-offs awaits us at Disney+. When asked about a return in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Neeson says he would definitely be interested if asked.

In the interview, Neeson seems to have completely thrown the “Star Wars” universe out of his life. It’s utterly incredible that he doesn’t know that Star Wars is more relevant than ever, especially since Neeson returned for a brief scene and voiced a line as Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker.

Back in October 2020, Neeson responded to a similar question with a similar choice of words. Are we to believe that he shouldn’t have gotten wind of it then at the latest that “Star Wars” is far from being written off?

Well-known pattern among “Star Wars” stars

Add to that the fact that Neeson neither confirms nor denies that he will return in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He only emphasizes that he would like to if Disney asked him. For years, Obi-Wan star Ewan McGregor also followed this path: “I would return if you would just ask me.”

As fans now know, he was asked, and McGregor knew full well, but wasn’t allowed to reveal it. Instead, he fueled fan euphoria by expressing an interest in the project.

If we – and especially numerous fans in the YouTube comments – are not completely wrong, then Neeson uses exactly the same scam as his fellow actor. This means that Liam Neeson’s appearance as Qui-Gon is almost certain.
