Obi-Wan Kenobi: The series on Disney+ is too long for you? “Star Wars” fan turns 6 episodes into one movie

OBI WAN KENOBI

Although the series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on Disney+ only has 6 episodes, some viewers complained about the leisurely pace of the storytelling. A “Star Wars” fan turned the series into a movie.

  • “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on Disney+ told of the ancient Jedi Master during his time in exile.
  • However, many fans felt that the miniseries story would have worked better as a film.
  • VFX artist Kai Patterson took this project into his own hands and the result is impressive.

The “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series on Disney+ has long been awaited by “Star Wars” fans and is now completely available on the streaming service. While some viewers simply enjoyed the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen as Kenobi and Anakin/Darth Vader, others were disappointed with the series’ story and pace.

This also includes Kai Patterson, who works in the film industry himself and currently earns his money as a VFX artist. Watching “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Patterson noticed many scenes that, in his opinion, could easily be streamlined and appear to contain certain shots only to fit a needed episode length.

Patterson then edited the 6 episodes of the series into a single film, which, at just under 150 minutes, is two hours shorter than the series. This loss of time results in part from the lack of flashbacks and credits for each episode, but Patterson often simply removed scenes that were not needed for the plot.

Of course, Patterson only had the footage that was available on Disney+, adapting a scene from Episode 3 to explain why Darth Vader isn’t chasing Obi-Wan – a common criticism. He also removed scenes where the other Inquisitors are annoyed by Reva or don’t take her seriously, as this behavior makes Reva appear less menacing.

Patterson’s fan version can currently be viewed and downloaded from his website. He asks that only people with an active Disney + subscription see his version, after all he has no rights to the material. This could also ensure that Patterson’s Kenobi film will not be available for much longer. However, Patterson is proud of his film version and wanted to share it with other fans.

The next “Star Wars” highlight will be the series “Andor” on Disney+, a prequel series to the film “Rogue One”, which in turn was a prequel to “Episode 4 – A New Hope”. In the cinema, on the other hand, “Star Wars” only continues when “Thor 4” director Taika Waititi has shot his mysterious new film.
