Occupants rescued – Rafting boat carrying nine people capsized

In Lend in Salzburg’s Pinzgau, a rafting boat capsized on the Salzach shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday. All nine occupants – four adults, four children and a rafting guide – fell into the river and drifted off. They could be saved.

The occupants were all able to swim to the shore or were rescued from the water. “All rafters wore life jackets, helmets and wetsuits,” said Markus Gewolf from the water rescue service. Except for minor injuries, the participants of the tour – according to initial information holidaymakers from Italy and Germany – should have escaped unhurt. The Salzach is currently carrying a little more water, but not nearly as much mud as in the past few days. Man was missing for a short time. One of the rafters was rescued from an eddy by another rafting boat. Because this could not be reported immediately, the man was considered missing for a short time. Large-scale deployment of rescue workers required On Friday, around 80 people were deployed, half of them from the water rescue service. For safety reasons, the western railway line, which partially ran alongside the river, was closed during the rescue operation.
