Invited this Sunday morning in “Le Grand Rendez-vous” on Europe 1 and CNews, the Republican presidential candidate said he wanted “war on smugglers”. With some 230 migrants on board, the humanitarian boat docked Friday, November 11 at the port of Toulon, after a showdown between Paris and Rome. For Bruno Retailleau, welcoming theocean viking on French territory is equivalent to “Opening Pandora’s Box”.

In his sights, the NGOs – which bring back to Europe the migrant boats present near the African coasts – act according to him “as a sort of auxiliary to these networks of smugglers”. “There were infiltrations and searches. They have clearly shown that there has been sharing, in particular of GPS data, between these boats and the sectors for some time”, he continued, denouncing “human-rights” of these organizations flouting maritime law.
“France has folded”
“From now on, the smugglers, the traffickers of human beings, these mafias which operate, which earn billions and with the support of these NGOs which circulate and which sail in the Mediterranean, will know that France has folded and that it will fold. It’s a turning point.” hammered the president of the senators LR. As soon as the arrival of the ship was announced, Bruno Retailleau had already denounced in a press release“an irresponsible signal” sent by Emmanuel Macron to the smugglers.
Bruno Retailleau also calls for an end “the infuriating moral lessons” towards Rome, which refused to accommodate the ship. France should, according to him, follow the position of its Italian neighbour. “If doctors had to come on board to treat people who were in danger, we bring them on board, but we do not welcome the boat”, he explained. And to hammer, with firmness: “Besides, we accompany the people we take at sea to the nearest and safest port. (…) Either Libya, or Syria”.
