The Azores are a type of subtropical Iceland: The archipelago is home to a remote world of blue-green crater lakes, bubbling mud pools, and waterfalls cascading down overgrown rocks. Although they too They belong to Portugal, they are located more than 1,000 kilometers from the mainland in the Atlantic. It is not only on São Miguel, the largest island, that the quiet atmosphere of an undiscovered island that still offers all the comforts prevails.
2) Canary Islands: La Gomera

Quiet and secluded from the rest of the archipelago, the Canary Island of La Gomera is still a paradise for adventure seekers: Spectacular hiking trails lead through jungle valleys and up to rugged cliffs, which are particularly easy to climb in mild October temperatures. The island can only be reached by ferry from Tenerife – leaving behind the resorts and crowded beaches in exchange for sleepy villages, winding paths and charming accommodation. Sure, La Gomera doesn’t have the endless beaches of its sister islands – but it’s definitely enough for swimming in the sea.
3) Spain: Costa Brava

We’re not talking about the Costa Brava with its high-rise buildings and beaches so overcrowded that you can barely see the sand. We’re talking about a Costa Brava that Catalans would like to keep to themselves – where bays with golden sand lie in the sun, medieval towns climb the hills and charming boutique hotels invite you to vacation. Begur, for example, is beautiful with its Cuban-style villas and the beaches of Aiguablava and Sa Tuna. Inland, Peratallada with its medieval streets awaits guests and just a short drive from there is Girona with its old town, which plays a leading role as Braavos in “Game of Thrones”. Who needs Barcelona anymore?

The Greek island of Samos off the Turkish coast has long been on the radar of dedicated beach lovers. But it’s not just the beaches that are absolutely charming, there are also pretty mountain villages in the interior, and you can go hiking on Kerkis (1,440 meters) and the Ambelos mountain range, which runs through the island, while Vathy is the place for lazy coffee, petting cats and dinner.
