Oculus Quest: V37, the official list of what’s new in this new firmware

After an appearance through the beta testing channel, V37 is now available in final version. As always, be patient because its deployment on our VR headsets began on January 17 and will, without a doubt, still be done in waves and without any particular logic. Many of you, reading this article, will therefore not have this latest firmware on your Oculus Quest 2. As a reminder, the board ofOculus for the updates to take place is to leave the headset on standby plugged into the power overnight.

Whether you have it or not, you will find, below, the official list of things that the firmware V37 is supposed to bring. To note, Oculus indicates the display change in the library and the setting of the joystiks as new things, but they were already present in the latest version of V35. Amusing. Another point of detail, the Guardian 2.0 (the one with the management of ceilings, walls and furniture) has not been formalized as was anticipated since it is already present by fiddling (see our tutorial). Also note that the “Raise the view” option moved from the “Experimental” tab to “Adjust size” in the “Accessibility” tab but that this is not notified in the changelog given by Oculus.

  • Application Library
Oculus first-party apps are no longer pinned to the top of your app library. Instead, you can control the order of your apps through your app library’s sort + filter settings.
Editor’s note: this already existed since v35
  • Sharpness enhancement via Oculus Link and Airlink
Oculus has improved the sharpening algorithm for better visual clarity through the Link.
  • Guardian stationary
The Guardian now uses Passthrough while in hover mode. When you move towards the edge of your Guardian in Hover, you will not see the outlines of the boundaries but the actual environment which will fade in.
  • Horizon Home
To help you explore your Horizon Home, you can now teleport to different designated areas of your Home environment.
    • Simply hide the universal menu by pressing the Oculus button and press your controller stick forward to see a set of potential teleport points. Then aim for one of these points and release the joystick to teleport.
    • When the universal menu is hidden, you can also press the joystick left or right to rotate in place.
  • Expandable 2D windows
For better control of your VR workspace, you can now resize your application windows to different heights and widths. At the moment it works with the Browser, Oculus TV and Files as well as some 2D multitasking apps currently available on the Quest.
  • Display bar
To provide more flexibility in displaying 2D applications, you can now change the distance, scale, and rotation of your 2D application panels by using the display bar to switch between tablet and desktop modes.
    • To switch between panel types, select and hold the view bar below the center panel, then drag the bar up or down.
    • When you switch between Desktop and Tablet modes, your browser tabs now consolidate into a single window to help you keep your workspace clean and organized.

Our editor: the keyboards are recognized as American keyboards (qwerty) even if ours are French (azerty). Second gag, the Apple Magic Keyboard with digital pad is not recognized as such but as a version without /

  • Selection of the tracked keyboard:
    • In v28, the pairing, but also the visualization of the Logitech K830 keyboard was possible in VR. From now on, the Apple Magic Keyboard is also possible on Quest 2.
    • You can pair your Apple Magic Keyboard with your headset in the Experimental Features panel in Settings. You’ll also need to enable hand tracking (if you haven’t already), which can be done in the Hands & Controllers settings menu.
  • Sharing between smartphone and headset:
Ability to send a link directly from your phone to your Quest via the Oculus app. Currently this is only available on Android but will soon be available on iOS.
To do this, first make sure your headphones are turned on and Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Then open a website on your phone, click share, choose the Oculus app then open now, select your headset and it will automatically open in the browser when you put your headset on.
  • Improved quick menu with hand tracking:
Ability to use a pinch gesture with your hands to bring up a quick action menu. This allows you to quickly do things like take a screenshot, activate voice commands (only available for English-language headsets, editor’s note) and more.
To bring up the quick action menu, place your palm in front of your face and pinch your thumb and index finger together.
  • Redesigned Explore page:
We’ve redesigned your Explore page to make it easier to find the experiences you care about. To do this, we made the following updates:
    • Add maps that make it easier to find your friends.
    • Updated sections so you can discover the games, apps, and content that matter to you.
  • Controller settings
Added the possibility of adjusting the settings of our Touch not only to give more options to experienced users, but also to improve accessibility and solve problems that may arise with wear.
The most recent tweak addition for v37 is the ability to adjust the center dead zone of the joystick, as well as the range of the joystick. You can make these adjustments from the Experimental Settings section of the settings panel.
Editor’s note: this already existed since v35
