Marco Odermatt amazed Adelboden when he won the giant slalom – and continued to work on his outstanding season.

Marco Odermatt slid and flew down the Chuenisbärgli and towards the 2nd best run time this Saturday with an acrobatic dance that seldom had a skier before. The crowd of spectators in the finish area with the hundreds of Swiss flags literally exploded when the man from Nidwalden brought in the 2nd consecutive victory in the Adelboden giant slalom, which from the Swiss point of view had been abused for a long time.

The commentators were completely over the moon across TV stations: from “Marco the greatest Odermatt” (ZDF) to “from another star” (ORF) to “simply unbelievable” (SRF), one superlative followed the next.

Kristoffersen as a motivator

And the board artist himself? “It’s incredibly awesome. But it was kind of on the limit. It could have turned out differently two or three times, »Odermatt is aware of the risky journey. For him it was clear at the start: “I knew that I couldn’t let Henrik (Kristoffersen, ed.) win, I just had to step on the gas.” The fans paid it back to the 25-year-old at the finish.

On the white band in a green-brown environment, Odermatt showed, above all with his spectacular run in the second run, that the slope was in surprisingly good condition despite the high temperatures. The people from Adelboden did a wonderful job, according to the praise of the winner and also of second-placed Kristoffersen, who was ultimately 0.73 seconds behind Odermatt.

With 13 “giant” podiums in a row, the previous dominator of the season continues to work on his outstanding statistics. With the 17th World Cup victory, Odermatt also extends its lead in the overall World Cup (+400 points to Aleksander Kilde) and in the giant slalom classification (+115 points to Kristoffersen).
