Of Money and Blood: what “disgusted” Niels Schneider in the Canal+ series

Niels Schneider plays one of the main roles in the new Canal+ series “D’Argent et de sang”. Playing a lawless trader in this fiction, the actor revealed what really bothered him about his crook character…

Canal+ continues this evening the broadcast of its new Original Creation D’Argent et de sang this Monday, October 23, from 9:09 p.m. Directed by Xavier Giannoli (Lost Illusions), this very successful and addictive fiction is based on the investigation book of the same name written by Fabrice Arfi.

Niels Schneider as an unscrupulous trader

In this crazy but very real story, the public follows the journey of a trader and two crooks, who teamed up between 2008 and 2009, to create a scam thanks to the flourishing financial market of “carbon quotas”. At the same time, a determined investigator (who never existed in reality!) is on their trail to put them out of harm’s way…

In the credits of the series D’Argent et sang, we find the film stars Vincent Lindon, Ramzy Bedia, Judith Chemla, David Ayala, Olga Kurylenko, Lyes Kouah, Yvan Attal, André Marcon and Niels Schneider. During a press conference, the latter also returned to his character, that of the trader Jérôme Attias.

“I tried to understand my character”

The 36-year-old actor shared his perception of this protagonist whom he plays brilliantly: “The intelligence of the scenario condemns, of course, these characters [le trio de fraudeurs, ndlr]. I never tried to love Jérôme Attias. On the other hand, I tried to understand it.

He does monstrous acts, he destroys everything in his path, but it’s the human behind that I find sad, almost overwhelming. He’s a Dostoyevskian character, he’s lostsays Neils Schneider. He doesn’t even know where the truth or the lie is anymore. He no longer has any bearings and that makes him pathetic, not just evil.

The actor (who praised Vincent Lindon’s performance with Ramzy Bedia) continued his analysis shortly after: “What scammers experience is an illusion. Money, being flashy… Where is it going? It’s running completely empty. There is always a need for more, it’s insatiable.

These aren’t characters who could say, ‘All I wanted was a car or a house for my family and now I’m stopping.’ No. It’s a headlong rush, it’s endless. It’s obscene, it disgusted me“, explained Niels Schneider. A descent into hell, the rest of which can be discovered this evening in the excellent series D’argent et de sang, from 9:09 p.m. on Canal+.
