The iPod revolutionized the digitization of music over 20 years ago. Apple is now announcing that production will be discontinued.

Off for the iPod: As Apple announces, the cult product is discontinued. The iPod touch, the last model, is only available while stocks last.

The Apple statement describes how the iPod has captivated users around the world who love to take their music with them on the go. The possibility of having your own music library with you is now integrated into all Apple products. So the spirit of the iPod lives on in the iPhone or the Apple Watch, said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing.

The last iPods touch

After more than 20 years, the iPod will soon be history. The latest iPod touch devices are available for purchase through apple.com, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last.

The iPod gave both Apple and digital music players a real boost in the 2000s: the company, then still under the leadership of Steve Jobs (1955-2011), expanded its business beyond computers beyond the small device, while the stylish MP3 players and iTunes software ended the CD age.
