Official opening – Mattersburg cultural center shines in new splendor

After several years of renovation, the cultural center, which plays every piece, now presents itself in a new guise.

The cultural center in Mattersburg was closed in 2014 due to structural defects. Now the refurbishment is complete. Science, education and culture with a focus on literature are now united in one place on 4750 square meters housed a catering business. The cost of the conversion was 21.8 million euros. “The Mattersburg cultural center should become the new house for reading, researching, listening and learning in Burgenland as a platform for cultural diversity,” said Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ). The visionary ideas of the “Cultural Offensive Burgenland” of the former Provincial Councilor for Culture Gerald Mader and the then Minister of Culture Fred Sinovatz, which are based on the principle of “Culture for All”, are taken up. Mayor Claudia Schlager was also enthusiastic: “The cultural center is for the social and cultural This area of our city is enormously important.” Mattersburg now has a unique center for culture, communication, further education, research and literature. “In this way we can consolidate and further develop our importance,” says Schlager. The change of location from Eisenstadt to Mattersburg means that the state archive and library are moving closer to the center of the state. Digitizing the state archive should make public access even easier for citizens.
