PARIS, May 15 (Reuters) – A consortium formed by the companies Elicio (subsidiary of Belgian Nethys) and BayWa re (subsidiary of German BayWa) has won a call for tenders launched by France to develop and operate a wind farm at sea floating with a power of 250 megawatts (MW) in the south of Brittany, announced Wednesday the Minister Delegate in charge of Industry and Energy, Roland Lescure.
The project will be located off the coast of Belle-Ile-en-Mer and the island of Groix (Morbihan).
Before Wednesday’s announcements, five out of eight offshore wind farms put on the market by the French government – as part of four calls for tender – had been awarded to consortiums formed around EDF, whose competitors are demanding greater opening of the market.
The result of the Bretagne Sud call for tenders was announced during the inauguration by the public electrician of the 500 MW park in Fécamp (Seine-Maritime), only the second to be fully operational in France due to procedures complex and multiple appeals filed in recent years against projects in development.
The State, which wishes to accelerate in this sector, announced at the beginning of May a new call for tenders, relating to four projects representing 2.5 gigawatts (GW), as well as its intention to launch another competitive procedure this year large-scale, with a power of around 10 GW.
