“Hope is getting weaker from week to week”: Munich’s Lord Mayor Reiter sees little chance that the Oktoberfest will take place.

In April 2020 it was certain: Due to the corona pandemic, the Oktoberfest in Munich was canceled last year. Since then, Wiesn fans have been hoping that the festival can take place again in 2021. But things are not looking good this year either. Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter (62) told the “Bild”: “Last year I firmly assumed that there would be the Oktoberfest in 2021. Hope gets weaker from week to week if you are honest.”

Is the Oktoberfest canceled again?

“No matter where you look, you can’t say the pandemic is in any way subsiding. And that’s why it’s currently difficult to imagine that the world’s largest festival can be held,” said the politician. The final decision will probably be made in the next few weeks: “I will clarify this with the Prime Minister – I think in May – because it would make sense to make decisions for all major Bavarian folk festivals. The probability is high that such festivals are not responsible for infectious reasons. ”

In 2020, Prime Minister Markus Söder (54) and Reiter announced the Oktoberfest cancellation in a joint statement. In 2021 the festival should take place between September 18th and October 3rd.
