Special birthday present for Olaf Scholz (SPD): At the G7 summit in Italy, the world’s most powerful heads of state and government sang a serenade for the Chancellor. Scholz turns 66 today, Friday, the second day of the summit. According to media reports, those present sang “Happy Birthday” before the first session on Friday.

Biden to Meloni: They sing for Olaf Scholz

The musical well-wishers include EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (65), EU Council President Charles Michel (48) and the host, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (47). In addition, there are the heads of state and government of the largest industrialized countries: US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron (46), British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (44), Justin Trudeau (52) from Canada and Fumio Kishida (66) from Japan.

The first congratulations are said to have reached Olaf Scholz in the air as he was on his way to his hotel in a helicopter on the night of the first day of the meeting. After landing, Scholz is said to have celebrated with his wife Britta Ernst (63) and his closest circle of staff.

There is not much time for celebration this Friday. The G7 group will discuss, among other things, the relationship with China, Africa and artificial intelligence. Pope Francis (87) will also come from Rome to the meeting place in Apulia for the talks.

A serenade from Andrea Bocelli?

At the end of the summit on Friday evening, Olaf Scholz could expect another birthday serenade. Andrea Bocelli (65) will sing for the high-profile guests before Giorgia Meloni invites them to dinner. It is not known whether “Happy Birthday” is on the star tenor’s note.
