Olaf Scholz promises to “continue supporting” kyiv

Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, does not foresee a rapid end to the war in Ukraine and Vladimir Putin should not expect relaxation from the West. This is essentially what the German Chancellor declared at the congress of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Berlin, where his intervention was eagerly awaited. “This war is unlikely to end quickly”, said Mr. Scholz. It is therefore important “that we may be able for a long time to do what is necessary”to know “continue to support Ukraine in its defense struggle”. Russia, in 2022, with its attack on Ukraine, “broke off all dialogue on peace and security in Europe”declared the Chancellor who recalled that “borders in Europe must no longer be changed by force”. Germany must even consider doing more “if others weaken”, declared the chancellor, in reference to the political uncertainty in the United States: blocking of aid to Ukraine in the House and presidential election in November. Therefore, decisions must be made on the German side “so that we are able to do it”.
