Olaf Scholz turns a page in the history of Germany, and explains to the Germans in which illusions they have lived so far and towards which strategic future to turn. The text he published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) echoes the speech he made on February 27 before the Bundestag to announce the creation of a special fund of 100 billion euros to propel the Bundeswehr to the forefront of European armies.
“The state of our Bundeswehr and our civil defense structures, as well as our overreliance on Russian energy, demonstrate that we have been basking in false security since the end of the Cold War,” writes- he. Government, business and large swaths of our society were only too happy…
