Old breed of domestic animals – Mangalitza and Turopolje at home in “hell”

For many years, Josef “Jupp” Waba from Podersdorf had his Mangalitza herd in Podersdorf. Now that he has retired, Frauenkirchner Josef “Jo” Göltl has taken over the paddock. Meanwhile, his red Mangalitza and black and white spotted Turopolje pigs cavort there.

For years, the Mangalitza pigs shaped the picture in Podersdorf-Karmazik, north of “Hell”. The old domestic breed is characterized by a particularly robust nature and a good-natured character. In addition, gourmets appreciate their extremely tasty meat. “The pigs have become a real magnet for locals and tourists alike,” says Podersdorf Mayor Michaela Wohlfahrt. She is pleased that the pigs from organic farmer Jo Göltl have now moved into the Podersdorf paddock. Göltl himself puts his heart and soul into keeping and processing the animals. “For me, species-appropriate, organic animal husbandry is a matter of course. That’s why I’m happy about the cooperation,” says the Frauenkirchner.Göltl, the municipality of Podersdorf am See and the National Park Neusiedler See – Seewinkel cooperate in order to preserve valuable habitats and the cultural landscape. “Biodiversity that you can see and ultimately taste!” says National Park Director Johannes Ehrenfeldner. By the way: Jo Göltl’s products are available in his farm shop in Frauenkirchen. More at goejo.at.
