Old property prices in France fall by 1.6% in the 1st quarter of 2024

According to the Notaries-Insee indices published this morning at 8:45 a.m., the prices of old housing (houses and apartments) in France (excluding Mayotte) in the 1st quarter of 2024 fell by 1.6% compared to the previous quarter. Over one year, old property prices fell by 5.2% (seasonally adjusted data).

In the previous quarter, prices in existing buildings were down 1.8% over 3 months and down 3.9% over one year.

What you need to know about this indicator: old property price indices are calculated each quarter using an INSEE method in collaboration with notaries. It is based on models allowing the price of a good to be estimated based on its characteristics. Data on sales of old housing and their characteristics (surface area, number of rooms, type of rooms, etc.) are provided by notaries based on transactions carried out during the quarter. The Notaries-Insee indices take into account the type of property (house or apartment) and the geographical area. They are then aggregated to obtain an indicator at the national level.
