Donald Trump makes no secret of his admiration for Putin – but he would rather see Joe Biden in the White House for a second term. At least that’s what the Kremlin chief claims in an interview on Russian television.
In his own words, Russian head of state Vladimir Putin finds another term in office for US President Joe Biden more desirable than a return of Donald Trump to the White House. When asked which winner Russia would like in the US presidential election on November 5th, Putin replied in an interview on the Russia-1 television channel: “Biden, he is more experienced. He is predictable, he is an old-school politician. ” The Russian government will “work with any US leader in whom the US people have trust,” Putin claimed.
“What we need to examine is the political stance, and that of the current government is extremely harmful and wrong,” the Kremlin leader continued. Biden is a staunch supporter of Ukraine, against which Russia has been waging a war of aggression for almost two years. The US President has repeatedly sharply criticized Putin. His Republican predecessor Trump, on the other hand, has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the Kremlin boss – and most recently indirectly issued him an invitation to attack NATO member states that do not meet their contribution targets.
Putin said about Trump that he was described as a politician who did not fit into the system. “He has his own opinion on how the United States should develop relations with its allies.” The Europeans’ attitude is illogical. “They want the US to continue protecting them for free,” said Putin.
No doubts about Biden’s mental fitness
This was the first time the Kremlin boss had commented on the 2024 US elections, in which Biden and Trump are expected to compete against each other for the second time. Putin continued to say it would be wrong to interfere in the US election campaign. In 2020, a report by the US Senate Intelligence Committee found that Russia had attempted to influence the 2016 US presidential election in favor of Donald Trump.
Putin also commented on Biden’s mental fitness. “When I met with Biden in Switzerland – but that was a few years ago, three years ago – it was already said that he was no longer able to hold office. I saw nothing like that.” While he appeared to defend Biden, he also recalled an embarrassing incident for the US President. Biden hit his head while getting out of a helicopter in June. “Well, who among us hasn’t hit our head before?” said Putin.
