Oled, 120 Hz and eSIM in an accessible smartphone: it exists

Vivo launches the Vivo V29 Lite, a smartphone with a neat design and a rather solid technical sheet for its price of 350 euros.

Vivo, despite a ban on selling its smartphones on the German market, is continuing its journey in France. The Chinese firm, 5th manufacturer in the world still quite discreet in France, is launching the Vivo V29 Lite.

Successor to the Vivo V23, which stood out with its iPhone-style notch and a back capable of changing color, this Vivo V29 Lite has a solid technical sheet for a price of 350 euros.

On paper, why is it convincing?

For this price, Vivo has managed to squeeze in a 120 Hz Oled screen, 44W charging with a 5000 mAh battery, eSIM compatibility, still extremely rare at this price range, all in a featherweight 177 g. Hat.

More anecdotally, the 5G smartphone also adopts a 64 megapixel sensor, as well as two very very secondary sensors (a macro and a “Bokeh camera” both 2 megapixels), a 16 megapixel selfie sensor and an IP 54 certification that protect against splashing water and dust.

The Oled screen we were talking about above has a Full HD + definition and covers, we are promised at Vivo in the press release, a wide range of DCI-P3 colors. It is also curved at 60 degrees on both sides to promote grip. Hopefully, this won’t also encourage unwanted taps on the screen. Vivo, as often, offers an extended RAM system, here in generation 3.0. This allows the 8GB RAM to be extended up to 16GB by fetching from the ROM. Remember that this extended RAM is not as fast as “real RAM”.

The most notable concession of this beautiful technical sheet is undoubtedly its Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC, which was already found on mid-range smartphones last year. Depending on the case, we have sometimes had somewhat slow smartphones with this chip.

Availability and prices of the Vivo V29 Lite

The Vivo V29 Lite is available from June 29 at a price of 350 euros in the 8 GB + 128 GB storage version. It comes with a 44 W charger and a protective case, which we imagine in silicone.
