OLG trial in Tyrol – Father killed at wedding: verdict now confirmed

Last year, flying fists ended in drama in Bad Häring, Tyrol (Kufstein district): After a 32-year-old punched his father (63) at a wedding party, the father died in hospital. The Higher Regional Court has now confirmed the verdict against the son.

After years of “radio silence”, a then 32-year-old met his father (63) at his sister’s wedding reception in Bad Häring in June 2023. In the argument, the son struck and his father died in hospital. Bodily harm resulting in deathThe 32-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison in November for bodily harm resulting in death, but appealed. “My client showed remorse at the hearing in November and is already facing the ruins of his existence,” argued his defense attorney at the appeal hearing. Thus, the man – who was under the influence of considerable alcohol at the time – was “sufficiently punished” even with a partially suspended prison sentence or with the minimum sentence of two years. “Mitigating circumstances already taken into account”The Higher Regional Court saw it differently. The mitigating circumstances had already been sufficiently taken into account at the main hearing. With a sentence of up to 15 years, there is no room for maneuver, especially since the sentence at the time was already “set at the lowest range.”
