Oliver and Amira Pocher: Couple uses live broadcast for silence in solidarity

Where Oliver Pocher (42) and his wife Amira (27) otherwise joke and make fun, there was solidarity silence on Thursday evening. The entertainer couple used the live airtime of their RTL show "Pocher – dangerously honest!" To make an important statement. The two were silent for eight minutes and 46 seconds, dressed in black "don't care" t-shirts, in the darkened TV studio. It was exactly the amount of time that African American George Floyd fought for his life in the United States last week while a police officer knelt on his neck.

It should be a sign against racism. "Racism kills and racism is not just an American problem," Amira Pocher’s words are quoted in advance of the RTL broadcast. The comedian added: "There is no place for racism here in this world." The couple had called on their followers to support the campaign by sending their names via social media. These were later shown at the bottom of the screen during the minutes of silence. Over 400 people responded to the call from the couple, who has shown greatness in the last edition of the show.
