Oliver Welke will not moderate the European football championship taking place in summer for ZDF, as it is now known.

The kick-off for the 2021 European Football Championship will sound on June 11th. As has now been announced, presenter Oliver Welke (55) will not accompany the games broadcast on ZDF as previously assumed. Several media report this unanimously. First, the broadcaster had confirmed to the media magazine “DWDL.de”that Welke won’t be on board.

According to a spokesman for the station with Welke, “an amicable solution was found in very good discussions”. And the presenter will not be seen at the World Cup next year either. Because Welke “will be the presenter of the ‘heute show’ on ZDF at the 2022 World Cup in November and December, it was the joint decision to switch to the European Championships in summer 2021”.

Instead, according to the reports, Katrin Müller-Hohenstein (55) and Jochen Breyer (38) will moderate the EM. It was already known in the summer of last year that Oliver Kahn (51) was leaving as a ZDF expert. Previously, it was actually planned that Kahn and Welke would accompany the EM 2020 together, which was then postponed to 2021 due to the corona pandemic. Because of the “postponement of the tournament to the coming year, this is not possible,” said the broadcaster at the time.
