Olivia Colman plays the Queen in the hit series "The Crown". In 2014, before meeting the Queen, she briefly forgot her manners.
Olivia Colman (46, "The Night Manager") slips into the role of Queen Elizabeth II (94) from the third season of the Netflix series "The Crown". Six years ago the Oscar winner met the British monarch herself – but so unexpectedly that Colman slipped out an ugly word in surprise.
"I didn't think she would be there"
Colman tells the British Daily Mirror about the uncomfortable moment that happened in 2014 during a film event at Windsor Castle: "I didn't think she would be there and suddenly we all found ourselves in a long queue. " When the actress then looked down the corridor and spotted the Queen, a swear word slipped out of her excitement. Fortunately, according to the newspaper, Elizabeth II was not within earshot and the actress was able to calm down relatively quickly.
The meeting with the queen was apparently very short. Those in attendance were instructed to "just make a small bow" and "not to overdo it," recalls Colman. A man then pushed her and her companion forward and asked them to "move on quickly after the encounter because (the Queen) had to greet hundreds of people".
Olivia Colman can be seen as Queen Elizabeth II in the third season of "The Crown" since November 2019. Her colleague Claire Foy (36, "Aufbruch zum Mond") played the monarch in front of her in the first two seasons.
