Olivia de Havilland is dead. The actress died of natural causes in Paris. She was 104 years old.

Olivia de Havilland died at the age of 104. The former Hollywood actress died on Sunday (July 26) of a natural death in her adopted home of Paris, according to the "New York Times", citing her spokeswoman Lisa Goldberg. De Havilland was the last survivor of the acting team from the classic film "Gone with the Wind".

De Havilland was born to British parents in Tokyo in 1916 and lived in California from 1919. The Austrian theater director Max Reinhardt (1873-1943) discovered the 19-year-old in the role of Hermia from Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" in 1935. By 1941 she appeared in eight films alongside Errol Flynn (1909-1959). In 1939 she was awarded an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the portrayal of Melanie Hamilton in the literary adaptation "Gone with the Wind". In 1947 she received her first Oscar for her role in "To Each His Own". In 1950 she received another gold boy as Best Actress for "The Heiress". Her other film successes include "The Black Mirror" (1946) and "The Snake Pit" (1948).

In 1955 she married Pierre Galante (1909-1998) and moved to Paris with him. The couple separated in 1962, but did not divorce until 1979. From the marriage a daughter emerged, from her first marriage De Havilland had son Benjamin, who died of a tumor in 1991. At the end of the 1980s, de Havilland retired from the acting business. Since the death of Elmo Williams (1913-2015) in December 2015, De Havilland has been the oldest living person to have won the Oscar. In 2017 she was honored as the oldest woman to date by the Queen (94) as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE).
