Former government spokesperson Olivier Véran, now an MP again, intends to take advantage of “his newfound freedom of speech” to influence the left within the majority, “in difference, but not distrust”. “I want to speak to those of our fellow citizens whose hearts still beat on the left and who feel stateless: neither Mélenchonistes, nor more totally Macronists,” he declared in an interview with Le Parisien.

“This humanist, secular, republican, Europhile center-left, we failed to achieve an absolute majority, but knows how to mobilize each time to block the RN. We must not wait for a second round to remind us that they have trusts (…) This means being respectful in the choice of words we use, re-examining ourselves when we are upset by our reforms,” he explains.
Olivier Véran does not say he is bitter about his ouster from the government by Emmanuel Macron. “I am not one of those who welcome his choices when they go my way and deplore them when they do not,” he says. “On the other hand, I am joining Parliament with total freedom of speech and action (…) They say that a minister shuts his mouth. It is therefore that a former minister can reopen it. In the difference, but not distrust,” he warns. Now a member of the Renaissance group, he intends to continue his commitment against the RN, refusing to “trivialize” it.
“I went to all the towns managed by the RN, these people are dangerous. We must say it, and show it (…) I do not consider them in the republican arc and I will never vote for a proposed law from the extreme right,” he assures. The former Minister of Health, a neurologist by profession, indicates that he intends to “return to the coat one day a week” and also wants to “support women victims of violence within associations”.
