PARIS (Reuters) – The journey of the Olympic flame on the occasion of the Games organized in France will begin in the spring of 2024 in Marseille, the organizers announced on Friday.
As usual, the flame will be lit in Olympia, Greece, before sailing from Athens to Marseille, where sailing and football events will take place.

“In the spring of 2024, Marseille will have the good fortune and joy of being the first city to host the Olympic flame on French soil,” Paris 2024 said in a statement.

“The flame will arrive in the Old Port of Marseille, the starting point of the Torch Relay, before beginning a collective journey of several weeks to Paris,” he added.

“The Belem, a majestic three-master, will connect Athens to Marseille, two cities intimately linked by their common history.”

The journey of the Olympic flame will end in Paris on July 14, Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy mayor of Paris, told reporters.

The 2024 Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
