Thanks to free TV and streaming offers, viewers never miss a minute of the 32nd Summer Olympics. Who transmits what from when.

At the 32nd Summer Olympics, the Olympic motto “It’s everything” also applies to spectators for the first time. Because of the corona pandemic, no spectators are allowed to attend the sports competitions at the games in Tokyo. In order to be able to follow the top performance, only the screen remains. Sports enthusiasts will be there from the opening ceremony.

Think about the time difference

On Friday, July 23, ZDF and Eurosport will broadcast the opening ceremony live from Tokyo from 1 p.m. onwards. In Japan, that means 8:00 p.m. local time – the seven-hour time difference between Germany and Nippon ensures that the Olympics mostly flicker on the screen at night. The closing ceremony on August 8th can be seen at Eurosport and in the first.

While Eurosport is running a 24/7 program for the Olympics and has a team of more than 50 experts and commentators in Tokyo, the public broadcasters bake smaller rolls. ARD and ZDF alternate with the broadcast every day and report from around midnight to 5 p.m. the following day from the world’s largest sporting event.

Streaming offer is growing

Either the ARD as well as the ZDF offer free live streams of their transmission in their online offer. Individual competitions that are not part of the main program can also be streamed via the digital offers. Ex-handball professional Alexander Bommes and TV presenter Jessy Wellmer are the studio presenters for ARD, while ZDF relies on sports presenters Rudi Cerne and Katrin Müller-Hohenstein.

Eurosport’s online offering is much more extensive. While the main channel can be received on free TV, the themed channels Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 are chargeable. However, interested parties do not need to purchase a subscription to the Eurosport player. Those who already use offers such as Joyn, DAZN or MagentaTV also have access to the entire streaming offer from Eurosport.
