DEB-Schreck Slovakia also clears the USA

The Russian national ice hockey team can continue to dream of “defending the title” at the Olympic Games. On the way to the semifinals, the Sbornaja clears the surprise team from Denmark out of the way. The USA also surprisingly got out of the tournament.

Germany conqueror Slovakia reaches for its first Olympic medal in the ice hockey tournament in Beijing. The 2002 world champions, who sent the DEB selection home with a 4-0 win in the first knockout round, defeated the USA 3-2 (1-1, 0-1, 1-1) in the quarter-finals. 0, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout. The surprise team from Denmark, the poorly started insider tip from Switzerland and Canada, on the other hand, were eliminated.

The Danish Olympic newcomers lost against Pyeongchang Olympic champion Russia 1:3 (0:1, 1:1, 0:1). The strong Confederates, vice world champions in 2013 and 2018, lost to Finland 1:5 (0:2, 1:1, 0:2). Canada was beaten by Sweden 0:2 (0:0, 0:0, 0:2).

Slovakia are in the last four for the second time since 2010 and meet Finland. The Americans, who mainly relied on college players after the NHL cancellation, missed the semi-finals like they did four years ago. The Sbornaja, which competes under the name of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), won the final against the German team 4-3 after extra time in 2018 and is now dealing with Sweden. The only Finns who are still undefeated have their sights set on the seventh Olympic medal since 1988.
