With the arrival in a little over a year of the Olympic Games in Paris, fake ticket sales sites are starting to abound.

Hosting the Olympics is an honor, but it can also be a source of stress for the country in which they are held. France will therefore have to be particularly vigilant on certain points, in particular on the question of tickets, the fairly high price of which makes them attractive objects for all criminals.

44 sites already identified

The 2024 Paris Olympics are fast approaching! And the clear sign of this proximity is the opening a few months ago of the online ticket office which allows you to obtain the precious sesame to attend the events.

Since then, there has been a rush for these tickets, which, despite their price, have been acquired by several million people from more than 150 countries around the planet. An enthusiasm that has not escaped the delinquents of the net, many of whom have set up fraudulent sites for the redemption of tickets for the Olympic Games

Thus, according to the gendarmes specialized in cybercrime, on the file for about 2 months, 44 fraudulent sites have already been identified. Sites that resell real… or fake tickets.

An activity that should last

At the very beginning, a few days after the sale by the Olympic Committee, we saw offers for unit sales appear on social networks. But very quickly, we came across much more organized and professional things. “, explains Captain Étienne, of the command of the gendarmerie in cyberspace.

And there’s something for everyone. Grossly fraudulent sites riddled with spelling mistakes thus rub shoulders with sites that are realistic enough to appear totally legitimate. The Olympic Committee, alerted, for its part asked for the closure of these sites, 17 of which have already disappeared. If the scammers from other sites persist in maintaining an online activity, the gendarmes will then seek their identity.

Unfortunately, the latter have no illusions, with the Olympic Games approaching and the arrival on the market of single tickets offered by the Olympic Committee, the number of fraudulent sites should increase. So, sports lovers, pay attention!
