SEK operation arrests two men during RAF search

The police are currently searching a former industrial site in Berlin as part of the search for the two underground RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub. This leads to arrests.

A major police operation has been taking place in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain since 7:30 a.m. as part of the search for the RAF terrorists Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg. This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper. The LKA Lower Saxony confirmed that two people were arrested during the operation. The identities of the two people are currently being checked.

“The LKA Lower Saxony is carrying out searches together with the Berlin police and the BKA. These are in connection with the search for the two wanted robbers Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg,” said Berlin police spokesman Martin Halweg to “Bild “-Newspaper. “We cannot provide further details due to ongoing investigations and manhunts.”

According to the “Bild” report, the operation is taking place on a former commercial site where construction trailers are supposed to be parked. Police officers from Lower Saxony as well as Berlin are on duty. At one location, the sounds of gunfire were heard during the arrest, but there were no injuries, said an LKA spokeswoman.

The LKA had recently intensified the search for the wanted former RAF members Garweg and Staub in and around Berlin, who are said to have carried out attacks together with the suspected RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, who was arrested at the end of February. The investigators therefore suspect that the two wanted people could be in Berlin.

Klette, who was wanted on six arrest warrants, was arrested in her apartment in Berlin-Kreuzberg at the end of February and was taken into custody after being identified using fingerprints. The now 65-year-old woman had been wanted for more than 30 years.
