During the sentencing, Judge Edward Burgess said the attack was not not motivated by racism. Defense lawyer Emma Martin explained that the children had thrown rocks which had touched Fay Johnson’s daughter. Judge Edward Burgess sentenced Johnson to four months in prison, suspended for six months.
