Valérie Pécresse was on Tuesday traveling in the North, in Roubaix, determined to win in the presidential election. The Republican candidate met with residents and pledged to take measures to fight against communitarianism, insecurity and Islamism.
The Republicans want to lie the polls which give Valérie Pécresse absent from the second round. On Tuesday, the LR candidate for the presidential election was traveling in Hauts-de-France, for a surprise one-hour visit to Roubaix, a city facing the rise of communitarianism. The opportunity for Valérie Pécresse, who is coming out of her period of isolation after contracting the coronavirus, to defend republican intransigence in the face of insecurity and Islamism and to prove to her camp that she takes many risks.
Valérie Pécresse went into contact with the inhabitants. Moreover, she was challenged upon her arrival by some of them who told her of their grievances. “We’re fed up,” lamented a woman who lives in Roubaix. “There are drug dealers everywhere. It looks like it’s rallies. They pass like that… Real savages.”
“Nothing is happening”, deplores Valérie Pécresse
The candidate, who proposes an emergency plan for justice, sees in it proof of the relevance of her program. “The problem is that indeed, those who rot the life of the neighborhood are surely pursued by the police, but nothing happens. Nothing happens,” she insists. Valérie Pécresse then strolls rue de Lannoy, where many community shops are located. As she approaches a bookstore accused of selling books advocating radical Islam, the store lowers the curtain.
The candidate promises a merciless fight against Islamism. The face of the Les Républicains party assures: “I want to give mayors and prefects the power to administratively close businesses in which writings that are contrary to the Republic are sold.” Valérie Pécresse leaves after an hour, after many exchanges with the local residents. Competing on her right on sovereign themes, the candidate does not intend to give in to her opponents.
