The new generation of 5008, Peugeot’s large family SUV, is about to be revealed. The big baby will now have the right to its electric version.

The 5008 will therefore remain in the same segment and will always be an enlarged version of Renault’s bestseller, the 3008. The latter was entitled to its electric version last year and the Sochaux brand has planned the same fate for its large SUV. Thermal versions with micro-hybridization and plug-in hybrids will also be available.

The ultimate family vehicle

The future generation of 5008 should, like the 3008, gain slightly in size, since its length will certainly reach 4.70 m. An increase in size which will not come at the expense of the fairly recognizable design of the vehicle. We won’t have to wait for a revolution at this level, but Peugeot has chosen to keep what is popular: the 3D grille and the claw-shaped signature. However, the first appearances of the camouflaged vehicle at the beginning of the year revealed a silhouette that was perhaps a little more slender than the old versions.

The interior should always be as welcoming. The switch to electric does not deprive it of its third row of seats; that would be the height; and the e-5008 will still offer 7 seats.

Technologies and motorization

The 5008 is based on the same platform as the 3008, namely the STLA Medium, designed for electric, but also adapted to thermal and hybrid engines. In the electric version, the e-5008 will certainly be equipped like the e-3008. Namely, a 210 hp engine, which will not be too much to carry the weight of the machine. If this is currently unknown, we can easily imagine it being close to 2 tonnes, the latest thermal versions weighing around 1.5 tonnes.

In terms of the battery, same story, it will certainly be similar to that of the e-3008, with a capacity of 73 kWh which will allow it to travel 525 km. A version with a larger battery is also planned (98 kWh) which will offer 700 km of autonomy. The 320 hp 4×4 version has not yet been confirmed. As for the interior, there should be no major changes compared to the e-3008 and the e-5008 will take over the driving position as well as the large 21-inch panoramic screen.

We will have to wait a few more weeks for its official presentation, as well as to find out more about the price list. We expect it for a price below 47,000 euros and marketing will begin this summer.
