THE UNAVOIDABLE

Tokyo Vice – Thursday, September 15

Tokyo, 1990s. Jake, an American news reporter, works for one of Japan’s most prominent newspapers. Passionate about organized crime, he closely follows the fearsome Yakuza gangs, going so far as to put his life in danger by infiltrating the mafia.

Inspired by the true story of Jake Adelstein, an investigative journalist whose eponymous book caused a stir, the slick aesthetics and omnipresent tension of Tokyo Vice make it the event series of the season, to be discovered from September 15.

It is Ansel Elgort, the revelation of West Side Story and Baby Driver who lends him his features, alongside Ken Watanabe (Inception, the Last Samurai…) and the Franco-Swiss Ella Rumpf (Grave). At the realization of this series in 8 episodes, we find Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) while the genius of the thriller Michael Mann, (Heat), signs the pilot.

Spider-Man: No Way Home – Friday, September 9

Notice to Marvel fans! Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third part of the adventures carried by Tom Holland awaits you on myCANAL from Friday, September 9! With its 7.3 million admissions in France, Jon Watts’ feature film is the undisputed box office champion of 2021.

Spider-Man’s identity has been revealed. His only hope for redemption: to make the whole world forget the name of Peter Parker thanks to a spell. But not everything goes as planned, due to the opening of the multiverse…

Tom Holland therefore puts on the costume of the hero again, accompanied by Benedict Cumberbatch in the guise of Doctor Strange. But that’s not all, since the film has a host of surprises in store for early audiences with the return of big names from Sam Raimi’s trilogy with Tobey Maguire and Marc Webb’s diptych starring Andrew Garfield. A nugget for all nostalgics.

Lost Illusions – Tuesday, September 20

The adaptation of one of Honoré de Balzac’s most emblematic works, Lost Illusions, can be discovered from September 20 on myCANAL. Acclaimed by critics and acclaimed by the public, the film was rewarded at the César 2022 ceremony with 7 statuettes, including that of Best Film, and broke all nomination records, since cited in 15 categories.

It is Xavier Giannoli who stages the fascinating rise of Lucien de Rubempré, a poet from the provinces who discovers Paris in the 19th century. As he climbs the ladder of sensational journalism and discovers the excesses of the capital, the political situation escalates and turns against him…

Scathing replies, verbal jousts and power games are brought to the screen by a superb cast: Benjamin Voisin, César for Best Male Hope and Vincent Lacoste, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, are surrounded by Cécile de France, Gérard Depardieu and even Xavier Dolan.

HIGHLIGHTS

Matrix Resurrections – Friday, September 2

Neo is back! More than 20 years after the start of the saga that revolutionized science fiction, Matrix Resurrections also marks the return of Lana Wachowski behind the camera.

Always as innovative, this 4th opus once again brings together Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Lambert Wilson and Jada Pinkett Smith. Thrown back into the matrix, Neo confuses dream and reality. Maybe the blue pills prescribed by her psychiatrist had something to do with it?

War of the Worlds – season 3 – Monday, September 5

The third and final chapter of The War of the Worlds is unveiled from Monday, September 5 on myCANAL. Freely inspired by the cult novel by HG Wells, the CANAL+ Original Creation oscillates perfectly between metaphysics and science fiction.

This new burst of 8 episodes takes us back to Professor Billy Ward (Gabriel Byrne) and Catherine Durand (Léa Drucker), while the survivors of the alien invasion are taken by a strange phenomenon of psychosis…

During his lifetime – Tuesday, September 13

On September 13, go to myCANAL to discover In his lifetime, the intimate and moving portrait of a theater teacher condemned by cancer. Emmanuelle Bercot films a masterful Benoît Magimel and rewarded as Best Actor at the César 2022. The director also finds Catherine Deneuve, whom she had already directed in Elle s’en va and La Tête haute.

Reluctant Superheroes – Friday, September 26

Actor in trouble, Cédric finally lands the role of his life, that of Badman, a superhero looking like French Bruce Wayne. But stricken with amnesia after a road accident, his reality becomes that of the character whose costume he wears.

After Alibi.com, Nicky Larson or even Babysitting, Philippe Lacheau unveils in 2021 a new comedy that he carries and directs, Super-heroes despite himself. A cocktail of misunderstandings and hilarious situations, to be enjoyed from Friday, September 26 on the platform.

The Eternals – Friday, September 30

Chloé Zhao, Oscar-winning director in 2021 for Nomadland (Best film and Best director), completely changes register with the 26th film in the Marvel universe where we find Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Kit Harington… and many others !

The Eternals, heroes from the far reaches of the universe, discreetly watch over the Earth. But when the return of the billions of souls sucked up 5 years earlier by Thanos generates a cataclysm, this group comes out of the shadows to save humanity.
